Antena Brings to Romania the First FIFA World Cup Broadcast in Surround Sound
FIFA World Cup 2026 will air exclusively on Antena and AntenaPLAY from June 11 to July 19
Antena is preparing the most comprehensive viewing experience ever offered to Romanian audiences for a FIFA World Cup. Between June 11 and July 19, 2026, Antena will exclusively broadcast the FIFA World Cup 2026 — the first edition in history to feature 48 teams, 104 matches, and three host countries: the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
For the first time in Romania, the tournament will be broadcast with surround sound, an experience through which Antena aims to bring fans closer to the atmosphere of the world’s greatest stadiums.
Antena is the first commercial television network in Romania to broadcast the FIFA World Cup, further strengthening its position as the leading destination for the most important sports and entertainment events. Following the 2026 edition, Antena will also broadcast the FIFA World Cup 2030, becoming the home of the World Cup in Romania for the next two editions.
Throughout the tournament, viewers will have access to 104 LIVE matches, hundreds of hours of studio coverage, on-site reports, special guests, former Romanian internationals, Romanian champions, Antena stars, and dedicated content across all group platforms.
The experience will also extend to AntenaPLAY, where fans will be able to watch all matches live, along with exclusive features and content: two dedicated channels, access to live coverage starting one hour before kickoff, goals and highlights available almost in real time, special shows featuring major names from football and entertainment, as well as access to additional camera feeds beyond the TV broadcast signal.
“Antena is the first commercial broadcaster to air the World Cup in Romania, and we are starting with the most complex edition ever played. Beginning June 11, football fans will enjoy special broadcasts, on-site teams, and an important technological premiere: the first World Cup broadcast in surround sound in Romania. This is just one of the new features we are preparing. On AntenaPLAY, subscribers will have access to exclusive camera angles, additional content, and an experience that begins one hour before the opening whistle of every match. In the summer of 2026, Antena is where Romania experiences the World Cup,” said Mihai Ioniță, CEO of Antena.
In turn, Bogdan Oancea, CTO of Antena, stated: “Antena produces thousands of hours of content each year at the highest technical standards, from Romania’s most beloved reality shows to major live broadcasts. For FIFA World Cup 2026, the first edition with 48 teams, we have prepared a special experience for viewers: surround sound for World Cup broadcasts. It is a major investment involving dozens of people, designed to help fans feel the emotion of every match more intensely, whether they are watching on television or on AntenaPLAY.”
Surround sound technology will transform match viewing into a more immersive experience, bringing audiences closer to the energy of the stadium: crowd reactions, the atmosphere of the world’s greatest arenas, and the intensity of every moment will reach Romanian homes with a superior level of immersion.
This innovation is part of a technological project developed by Antena together with Samsung, a global technology leader, with the goal of offering Romanian audiences a viewing experience that meets the standards of major international events.
