A season that has kept viewers on the edge of their seats comes to an end this week, with the stage set at the Yas Marina Circuit, where three drivers with chances to win the world championship will line up at the start. History will be written on Sunday, when motorsport becomes an art and the battle unfolds at colossal speed.

The penultimate race of the season was won by Max Verstappen, who prevailed at the Qatar Grand Prix, even though Oscar Piastri had won the sprint race. At the moment, the drivers’ standings are led by Lando Norris with 408 points, followed by Max Verstappen with 396 points, and Oscar Piastri with 392 points. In this Formula 1 season, all three drivers have seven wins each.

Lando Norris needs a podium finish at the Yas Marina Circuit to secure the world title. At the same time, if the Brit finishes fourth or lower, Max Verstappen will become world champion again—provided he wins in Abu Dhabi. Among the three, Oscar Piastri faces the toughest challenge: to be crowned champion, the Australian must win, and Lando Norris must finish sixth or lower.

The last time at least three drivers were fighting for the title going into the final round was in 2010. Every second mattered, and the suspense was at its peak, when Sebastian Vettel emerged victorious, overtaking Fernando Alonso, Mark Webber, and Lewis Hamilton in the standings.
