Last night, Erling Haaland secured Norway's place in the Round of 16, where they will face Brazil. Norway opened the scoring through Antonio Nusa in the 30th minute. Amad Diallo equalized for Ivory Coast in the 74th minute before Haaland netted the winner in the 86th minute, sending Norway into the next stage of the tournament hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada.

Antonio Nusa also made history by scoring Norway's first FIFA World Cup knockout-stage goal in 88 years. At 21 years and 74 days, he became Norway's youngest goalscorer at a major international tournament. Meanwhile, Martin Ødegaard, who assisted Nusa's goal, reached a remarkable milestone, becoming only the third player in history to register assists in each of his first three FIFA World Cup appearances, following Igor Belanov (USSR, 1986) and Michael Ballack (Germany).

Haaland also set a new international record. At 25 years old, he became the fastest player ever to score 60 international goals, reaching the milestone in just 53 matches. He has now scored five goals at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, having netted braces against Iraq and Senegal before being rested by coach Ståle Solbakken in Norway's final Group I match against France.

The excitement continued after midnight with France's 3-0 victory over Sweden, broadcast live on Antena 1 and AntenaPLAY. Kylian Mbappé delivered another outstanding performance, leading Les Bleus into the Round of 16, where they will face Paraguay for a place in the quarter-finals.

Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé combined once again to write FIFA World Cup history. With Mbappé's opening goal against Sweden, the pair reached six combined goal involvements at FIFA World Cup tournaments, setting a new record since detailed statistics have been tracked (1966). They surpassed the previous record of five shared goal involvements held jointly by Poland's Andrzej Szarmach and Grzegorz Lato, and Germany's Miroslav Klose and Michael Ballack.

Earlier this morning, Mexico also advanced to the Round of 16, where they will await the winner of England vs DR Congo at the iconic Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. After keeping a clean sheet throughout the group stage, Mexico once again shut out Ecuador, limiting them to just one shot on target.

The Round of 32 clash also produced the tournament's second red card under FIFA's newly introduced rule penalizing players for covering their mouths during confrontations. One of the standout performers was Mexican teenager Gilberto Mora, who came within 18 days of breaking one of Pelé's long-standing World Cup records and was among the best players on the pitch during his 60-minute appearance.
