Romania – Canada live on Antena 1 and AntenaPLAY! The match will be played on Friday at 21:00
This Friday, Romania’s national team will face Canada in a match at the National Arena, broadcast live on Antena 1 and AntenaPLAY. It will be the first-ever meeting between the two countries.
Romania will have a solid test against Canada just before the crucial clash in Cyprus, in the fifth round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Romania hasn’t had a great start to the group, collecting just 6 points in the first 4 matches and currently sitting in third place. Romanians are on the same level with Austria (who have two games in hand) and three points behind Bosnia and Herzegovina (one game in hand). Mircea Lucescu’s team will face Cyprus next, after having defeated them 2-0 in June.
Canada’s head coach Jesse Marsch is bringing big names to Bucharest. Among them is 25-year-old striker Jonathan David, who joined Juventus from Lille this summer. Canada is one of the three host nations of the 2026 World Cup, which will be broadcast exclusively by Antena 1. Alongside Canada, the United States and Mexico will also host matches at the world’s most prestigious football tournament. All three host nations are already qualified for the finals.
Friday evening’s coverage kicks off at 20:30 with the show Hai România în fiecare zi! (“Go Romania Every Day!”), featuring former Romania and Barcelona captain Gică Popescu and Dan Pavel, with special guests including Mircea Lucescu live from the National Arena, the Chefi la cuțite jury, and other surprises from the celebrity gallery supporting the national team in Bucharest. The match commentary will be provided by Andrei Rădulescu and Felix Drăghici.
SuperMondial on Antena 1: Florin Răducioiu interviews Javier Zanetti and Guti
Antena will broadcast the World Cup in 2026 and 2030 – Everyone on Antena!
In the latest episode of SuperMondial, Florin Răducioiu, World Cup ambassador for Antena, travels back to Milan for an interview with Inter Milan legend Javier Zanetti. The new episode airs Friday at 23:30 on Antena 1!
Zanetti played 858 matches for Inter and won 16 trophies — no one has ever matched that. He also earned 145 caps for today’s world champions, Argentina. He knows Romania well because he was teammate with the national captain, Cristian Chivu. He's also surprised that we are not at the World Cup. According to Zanetti, the Golden Generation put Romania on the world map, and he is convinced we can return there — it’s only a matter of time.
“I truly hope Romania qualifies because Romania is a country full of passion. And I believe this country deserves to be represented at a World Cup.” Zanetti told Răducioiu.
Zanetti is the only captain in Inter’s history to have won the treble — lifting all three major trophies: Serie A, Coppa Italia, and the Champions League. He captained Cristi Chivu and strongly supported the Romanian during his coaching stint with Inter’s youth teams.
“I see Cristi Chivu pouring all his passion into his work. Beyond his tactical ideas, he manages to transmit that passion to his players. In my opinion, he will have a successful coaching career.”
Răducioiu with Real Madrid legend Guti – Tuesday, September 9, at 00:00!
SuperMondial continues with another exclusive interview: Florin Răducioiu in conversation with former Real Madrid captain Guti, on Tuesday, September 9, at 00:00, only on Antena 1. The former Spanish forward scored dozens of goals, won 3 Champions League titles, and played alongside greats like Mijatović, Figo, Zidane, and Raúl. He joined Real Madrid at age 10 and stayed until he was 34. He was a European champion at youth level and coached Real’s youth team that won the Youth Champions Cup.
“Gică Hagi was like a mirror for us. When we were kids, he was an incredible player — with vision, passing, goalscoring, and finishing. As a player, he was almost a model for me. Honestly, all midfielders and forwards watched him a lot,” Guti told Răducioiu.
