Undercover Heart, the new original series created by Ruxandra Ion for Antena 1: a hidden identity, a dangerous mission and a love story that changes everything
An undercover agent, an identity that does not belong to him and a complex mission in which the truth must be uncovered at any cost. But what happens when love emerges in the middle of an extremely dangerous operation? Undercover Heart, the latest original series created by Ruxandra Ion and produced by Dream Film Production for Antena 1, brings to the forefront a compelling story where drama, action, love, secrets and revenge collide in a world where no one is quite who they seem.
Developed since 2025 and entering production at the beginning of 2026, the original series Undercover Heart will take viewers into a world of hidden identities, power games and secrets that change destinies, all intertwined with a unique love story. At the heart of the action is an undercover agent who is given an extremely important mission. Following a devastating fire, he assumes a new identity and infiltrates one of the most influential and corrupt families in the real estate industry, with the aim of exposing criminal connections, illegal activities, money laundering, high-level corruption and a possible connection to an international terrorist network. But his greatest challenge will not be the mission he has been assigned. It will be love!
In a world where identity can be a weapon and the truth can cost human lives, Undercover Heart tells the story of a love that emerges precisely where it should never have existed. Courage, justice, love, revenge, secrets and an undercover identity are just some of the ingredients of the latest original series, Undercover Heart.
“Undercover Heart has been and continues to be a challenge in every respect. I can honestly say that it is the most difficult project I have ever worked on, something I have never done before: an original series that combines drama with strong action elements, all intertwined with a forbidden love story. We even have a male protagonist in the lead role, a young undercover agent around whom we have built a story filled with characters and secrets, where every revelation changes what the viewer thought they knew. It is a world where almost everyone is hiding something, and every secret that is revealed opens the door to another one,” reveals Ruxandra Ion, while the team of writers, coordinated by Ruxandra Ion, Radu Grigore, Raluca Mănescu and Oana Răsuceanu, adds: “It all started with a challenge: what if two people fell in love in the aftermath of a tragedy – a devastating fire in which they, along with many others, are involved – without ever having seen each other face to face? That is how the story of an undercover agent who secretly ends up living someone else’s life was born. We built a family drama that combines love and humor with the suspense of a dangerous mission. The storyline also allowed us to explore a highly topical subject: that of a secret agency fighting corruption and investigating fraud involving European funds and major players in the real estate development industry. It is an issue that has made headlines in Romania in recent years, and we felt it was important to address it. All of this, however, remains the backdrop for a deeply human story about people caught between what they have to do and what they eventually come to feel.”
In turn, the team of directors, coordinated by Iulia Rugină, Federico Favino and Nicolae Tănase, states: “With every project, we know new challenges will arise, things we have never done before. Here, from our very first discussion, we realized there would be many, because the script is very dense and complex, with a huge number of twists and turns and extremely complex characters. And that is very rewarding for us. We are dealing with an original story in which character development unfolds across multiple layers of action, becoming a true directing challenge. It is a story that always leaves room for unexpected twists and turns and that keeps us – many times, even those of us on set – on the edge of our seats!”
And such a complex story called for an equally impressive cast: “For me, Undercover Heart was a very exciting challenge: finding actresses and actors who would not only portray characters, but also give them depth, sensitivity and truth. I had the joy of working with incredibly talented people who have an extraordinary ability to discover the nuances of their characters. I believe that what lies beneath the surface of the characters is precisely what makes this series so special. I am convinced that the audience will be in for many wonderful surprises.
