Goals in the 64th and 68th Seconds, an Own Goal, More Teams Eliminated from the Competition, and New Records Broken on Day 9 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Antena 1, the Ratings Leader

No day passes without major surprises—that is the hallmark of the world's most-watched sporting event, the FIFA World Cup, broadcast exclusively these days across the Antena network. The tournament, which continues to dominate the ratings rankings, featured yesterday’s clash between the USA and Australia, after which the United States secured its place in the next stage of the competition. Morocco and Brazil also celebrated victories. While audience data for the latter two matches will be available tomorrow, the Group D encounter between the USA and Australia, as well as Canada vs. Qatar and Mexico vs. South Korea, emerged as clear ratings leaders. The World Cup continues today with the battle for qualification to the Round of 32, exclusively on Antena 1 and AntenaPLAY.

The Group D match between the USA and Australia, played between 9:58 PM and 12:05 AM and ending in a 2–0 victory for the United States, was viewers’ top choice. It recorded a 31.5% market share and an average rating of 6.6 points among the commercial audience aged 21–54, compared to Pro TV’s 19.6% market share and 4.1 rating points. The ranking remained unchanged among the urban audience, where the match achieved a 26.7% market share and a 7.2 rating, ahead of Pro TV’s 11.3% market share and 3.1 rating points. Nationwide, Antena 1 recorded a 22.7% market share and a 6.2 rating, while Pro TV followed with a 13.6% market share and a 3.7 rating. During the golden minute at 10:46 PM, more than 1.3 million viewers were watching the match on Antena 1.

The previous day’s matches—Mexico vs. South Korea (Group A, 1–0) and Canada vs. Qatar (Group B, 6–0)—also topped the ratings charts across all audience categories, recording market shares of 32.6% and 27.1%, respectively, among the commercial audience aged 21–54. The same ranking was maintained across the other key audience segments.

The USA–Australia Group D clash, which ended 2–0, was broadcast live last night on Antena 1 and AntenaPLAY. Mauricio Pochettino’s side opened the scoring as early as the 11th minute in Seattle. Balogun delivered an excellent ball into the box, and Burgess inadvertently turned it into his own net. The final score was set in the 43rd minute when Dest received the ball on the edge of the area and fired a shot that was deflected into the path of Freeman, who scored. The goal was initially disallowed for offside, but VAR overturned the decision. Following this result, the United States sits atop Group D and has secured its place in the Round of 32.

Yesterday, Mexico defeated South Korea 1–0 at Guadalajara Stadium, advancing from Group A to the Round of 32 thanks to Luis Ramo’s goal in the 50th minute. Following the Czech Republic’s draw with South Africa, Mexico is guaranteed to finish first in the group and progress to the next stage of the competition.

Also yesterday, what was expected to be one of the most emphatic victories of the tournament—Canada’s 6–0 win over Qatar—was overshadowed by the serious injury suffered by Ismael Kone, who sustained fractures to both his tibia and fibula. From the 52nd minute onward, Qatar was reduced to nine men, and Canada dominated until the 91st minute. Jonathan David followed in Messi’s footsteps by scoring a hat-trick during the match. The victory was historic as well: it marked the Canadian men’s national team’s first-ever win at a FIFA World Cup match.

Earlier today, at 1:00 AM Romanian time, Scotland and Morocco faced off in a match that ended 1–0 in favor of Morocco and got off to a flying start on Antena 1. Ismael Saibari, who has already completed his medical examination ahead of a transfer to Bayern Munich, needed just 68 seconds to find the net. He scored with a superb strike from a tight angle, a chance that carried only a 13% probability of success. Morocco ultimately secured the victory and is now very close to qualifying for the Round of 32.

The spectacle continued at 3:30 AM, when Brazil defeated Haiti 3–0, securing a convincing victory even without Neymar. Carlo Ancelotti’s team wrapped up the game in the first half thanks to a brace from Cunha and a goal by Vinicius.

Also this morning, Romanian time, Turkey and Paraguay met in the second round of the World Cup group stage, with Paraguay winning 1–0. After Paraguay scored in the 64th second of the match, Turkey became the second national team eliminated from the World Cup, following Haiti.
